Now, this one isn’t quite from this week, but is relevant to the KODACHROME family nonetheless. Jekajane taught this piece at the 4th Annual KODACHROME Anniversary Workshop at James Madison University this past January. It was a very poignant moment during that weekend of dance. All of the dancers connected and interpreted the piece as if it were them speaking the words through their movement. Thank you Jekajane for sharing with us!
Ian Eastwood is a young creative making his own waves throughout the dance culture. This was a fun one for us to watch, and we wish we were right there dancing with everyone! Great job Ian!

“An open mind is a mind that cannot be confined … it strives to defy all that the world says it cannot … because it believes it’s a lie …”
Calan Bryant has been avid supporter of the KODACHROME movement even before he taught an African-fusion dance class for KCVA Season II. His mind is always traveling far distances, gathering all that is good in his path and applies it to his work at Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center in Newport News, VA. Tonight is no different. Calan has choreographed an amazing dance showcase, entitled OPEN MIND, with the youth of Downing-Gross and Reaction Dance Company. For more information, check out the Facebook Event and this very colorful and elaborate poster, which was designed by our very own Creative Director, @theprft!
As if you needed more convincing, here’s a video sneak peek at OPEN MIND…
We’ve always supported the Baltimore Dance Crews Project, not just because co-founders Brain Gerardo and Cynthia Chavez are original KODACHROME supporters and a constant inspiration, but for what they do in their community. The Baltimore Dance Crews Project has created an environment that provides more than just an after-school urban dance program, but a positive place that inspires student achievement, builds community, encourages creativity, and promotes healthy lifestyles.
On May 18th, the Baltimore Dance Crews Project will be hosting their first independent showcase. They challenge you to donate $18, and then ask 18 friends to do the same, to help support the $4500 needed to make the show a success.
You can donate, buy tickets to see the show, and learn more about the Baltimore Dance Crews Project on their website.
